After one of the most orderly and least contentious transitions in American history, Barack Obama appears ready to lead the nation as he takes office on January 20th.
His philosophy of bringing together a team of people that includes members of the opposition party to serve in lofty, important positions in his government is innovative, though not new, but hasn’t been done in a very long time in the US.
The transition of power went very smoothly, indicating a well-organized and fair team, not focused on politicizing every little issue, but on those commitments any President should make to his people – economic stability, security and improving the quality of life.
Whether Mr. Obama will be successful in the very difficult path he must follow will only be determined by future history. It is predicted he’ll have more trouble from his own party than from the opposition. No matter if that’s true or not, he has been handed a very difficult mantle, with an economy in shambles, the worst employment conditions in decades and two wars, with potentially more on the way.
As Americans, no matter which party or philosophical school we may follow, we should all give him our whole-hearted support as he moves into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with his First Lady, Michelle and their two daughters. After all, his success is the Nation’s success.
